Fried Potatoes and Onions:

This exquisite Southern dish can go with any meal that you want. It can go with your eggs and bacon in breakfast. If you want to have is in your lunch or dinner, you can have it as a side dish. You can have it with pot roast, chicken or steak. Your family will love sharing this dish with you.

 

In this recipe, you don’t need many ingredients many equipment and much time to prepare. You need four main ingredients, two main pieces of equipment and 5 minutes to prepare. In addition to this, making these fried potatoes and onions is very enjoyable. While the onions and potatoes are frying, you can play music and enjoy the process. The marvelous smell that this combination of potatoes and onions diffuses is also extraordinary. Enjoy!

 

INGREDIENTS:

  • ¼ cup of vegetable oil
  • 3 medium peeled Russet potatoes
  • 1 thinly sliced large yellow onion
  • salt and pepper

OPTIONAL: To add more flavor to your fried onions and Potatoes, you can add

  • ½ teaspoon of garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon of red pepper flakes
  • 1 tablespoon of chopped chives

INSTRUCTIONS:

Place your frying skillet over medium-high heat to heat your oil.

Slice your potatoes and yellow onions thinly so as to cook quickly  (about ¼ inch of thickness)

Put your onions and potatoes in the skillet and add in the remaining ingredients: salt and pepper, garlic powder and red pepper flakes. Stir and let them cook for 10 to 15 minutes.

Once your potatoes and onions are brown and tender, place them on top of paper towels that are in a plate to drain the excess oil. Sprinkle chives on top and enjoy.

 

 

NOTES:

Dry your potatoes before frying them.

Make sure to heat your oil before you start frying so that the potatoes don’t stick to the skillet.

Starchy potatoes like russet potatoes or Yukon gold are the best potatoes because they create a creamy texture.

If you need more of these fried onions and potatoes, you can double the ingredients.
